Not all my vacations were fun and games.
Here are some photo's of when I lived in Zagreb, Croatia
and the war tour states of the former Yugoslavia.

One of the many homes in Vukovar (Former Yugoslavia).  
It still amazes me that the lawns were cut and they 
had roses growing in their front yards.  

Everywhere you went you would see destroyed 
churches and mosques.  The war was over religious hatred.  
The Catholics would kill the Protestants and Muslims.  
The Muslims would kill the Catholics and Protestants.  
And finally, the Protestants would kill the Catholics and Muslims.

A Russian combat helicopter used by the United Nations 
to give V.I.P. Tours to American Congressmen and Senators.  
This ride forever changed my life.

Once up in the helicopter for as far as the eyes could see,
 it was total destruction.

The war factions had blocked the main road, 
making us take a detour onto a non-paved road.  
All the roads were deadly with land-mines, 
so you never wanted to leave the main paved roads.  
We thought this could very well be our final trip.  
We were lucky that day.  The bus full of people in
 front of us was not so lucky.

Almost all the homes had been burned by 
the war factions as they made there way across the country.

The winter snow really added an eerie contrast 
to all the destruction.

This was a common view all over Croatia and Bosnia.

These are only a few of the many pictures that 
still makes my heart cry each time that I see them.  
I will continue to add to these as time permits.
